Tazewell supervisors OK letter of support for PBS documentary proposal

Deborah Wilson, representing the Tazewell Class of '73 Foundation, told the Board of Supervisors that a locally produced documentary and book of class stories drew interest from PBS Appalachia and could offer national exposure for the county. Wilson described outreach made to PBS and to the Virginia Historical Society and said underwriting needs include a county contribution as part of a broader community underwriting strategy. She estimated a media package valuation and suggested county support in the form of a letter and participation in underwriting.
A motion passed directing the county administrator to draft a letter of support and for the foundation to provide proposed text. Board members asked Wilson to provide a draft letter and to coordinate with the director of tourism and the county administrator to finalize wording. No county funding appropriation was approved tonight; the action authorizes staff to prepare a support letter that would be delivered to the foundation on short turnaround.
The foundation presented projected audience reach and hypothetical economic-impact figures during the pitch; board members asked for more detailed underwriting and methodology if county financial participation is later requested.
