Council grants 90-day final-plat extension for La Barge subdivision; permits equipment order to avoid trail delay

At its Dec. 17 meeting Midway City Council approved routine consent items and specifically granted a 90-day extension for final approval and recording of the La Barge subdivision plat at 922 North Pine Canyon Road, after staff and the applicant said the plat is close to being recordable but requires completion of infrastructure and as-built drawings.
Councilmember Jeff moved to approve consent agenda items A–D and to grant a 90-day extension on item E with the option for the developer to return if the matter was not resolved. The motion was seconded and carried by members present.
Separately, staff described a practical option to avoid delaying the North Center Street trail: allow Heber/Heaton Light & Power to order necessary transformer equipment now. The vendor requires an 8–10 week lead time; if the council later decides not to proceed with undergrounding, Heber/Heaton Light & Power agreed to resell the equipment and reimburse the city. The estimated vendor portion is $120,000; the larger build-out (contractor trenching and conduit) will be determined when bids are opened. The council indicated verbal support; the formal payment will appear on a future warrants list for authorization.
Staff also reported a $400,000 grant award available for the ice rink and town-square improvements; staff thanked Nancy O'Toole for grant-writing efforts.
The 90-day extension and the direction to proceed with equipment ordering (pending formal warrants approval) were recorded in the consent motion. The council closed public comment with no speakers and moved on to department reports.
