"I'm open for the position," Becker said when asked whether he wanted to speak.
Council members praised Becker’s local familiarity and recommended placing money in the next budget to support training and certifications, including state water certification and backflow/cross-connection training, so the town can rely less on outside contractors. One council member suggested drafting a one-year, hourly contract that details duties, expectations and rate categories, and staff agreed to prepare that agreement. Staff described the arrangement as a contractor relationship (not a town employee) and confirmed Becker is insured.
Next steps are for staff and Becker to draft the contract, clarify invoice coding (water vs. general fund or building fund), and begin transitioning tasks before outgoing staff depart. Council members welcomed Becker and said they will revisit specifics when the contract is presented.
