San Anselmo council honors departing members, swears in two new members and selects mayor

In a lengthy session of tributes and protocol, the San Anselmo Town Council on Dec. 10 recognized outgoing councilmembers Alexis Feynman and Brian Colbert for their service, administered the oath of office to newly elected members Chantelle Walker and Yoav Schlessinger, and reorganized council leadership.
Council members and residents spoke at length about Feynman’s climate work and institutionalizing climate action in town operations. Council and residents credited Feynman with advancing an active transportation fund, climate staffing, and other initiatives. "Your transportation is an e-bike," a public commenter said in praise of Feynman’s personal example. Councilmembers used descriptors such as "precision," "visionary," and "North Star" to describe the departing members' contributions.
Brian Colbert was recognized for downtown economic development, Live on the Avenue, parklets, and broader county-level engagement; colleagues called him a "visionary" and thanked him for advancing the town's economic and transportation agenda. Colbert noted he will be sworn in to the Marin County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 14 and thanked staff, family and residents.
The council administered sworn oaths to Chantelle Walker and Yoav Schlessinger; the administering official read the standard oath to support and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of California and each new councilmember repeated the pledge.
Staff read the council's selection process for mayor and vice mayor, citing Resolution 4,073 (adopted 2014) that sets rotation by seniority. The council moved, seconded and voted unanimously to appoint Terrell "Carol" Cullaway as mayor and Steve Berto as vice mayor for 2025.
The council paused briefly for refreshments and then resumed business. No contested votes or policy actions were taken during the reorganization beyond the appointments and swearing-in procedures.
