San Anselmo panel approves Wells Fargo sign permit for downtown building

Assistant planner Jackson Deberny summarized staff’s analysis, saying the project complies with the town’s sign ordinance and falls below the 50‑square‑foot maximum for the site. The proposal replaces one sign facing the boulevard with a halo‑illuminated LED sign of about 24.4 square feet and replaces the San Anselmo‑facing sign with a non‑illuminated 21.5‑square‑foot aluminum‑letter sign in Wells Fargo red. Staff recommended the commission find the project categorically exempt from CEQA and approve the sign permit subject to standard conditions.
Applicant representative Gus (speaking for Wells Fargo) said the change is part of a national branding update; he confirmed the new lighting will be LED and comply with Title 24 efficiency requirements.
There was no public comment. Commissioner (speaker 4) moved to approve the staff recommendation; the motion was seconded and passed on a unanimous roll call. The approval is subject to a 10‑day appeal period.
