Board members asked staff to provide additional documentation in a few cases. A trustee said she had not received the athletic director’s job description and asked whether the AD role should remain in the RASA contract or be a standalone individual contract; staff explained the historical shifts between a standalone athletic-director position and combined roles, and said the appointments were presented as individual contracts. For the Dean of Students position, a trustee asked for the general ledger account number to confirm the funding source; staff said the role uses general-fund dollars and agreed to provide the precise account coding after the meeting.
The board approved two student-travel requests. Trustees approved Romulus Middle School’s seventh- and eighth-grade field trip to Mackinac Island (dates and packet exhibits presented) and separately approved band trips for Romulus Middle School and Romulus High School to Chicago, including clinics and museum visits. The packet noted that individual students pay trip costs; during discussion a trustee flagged a $16,000 transportation line on the trip form and staff clarified that the $16,000 shown was not an extra out-of-pocket charge to families.
Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Edmonson reported on extracurricular programming before the votes, praising the middle school swim team’s relay win, describing expanding eSports participation and announcing a planned after-school drone program. “It’s just nice to report today that we are headed in the right direction,” he said, urging trustees to check the district calendar and attend events when possible.
All personnel and trip motions were moved and seconded as listed in the meeting packet and approved by roll call. Board members said they would follow up on outstanding documentation (job descriptions, account codes) and that finance staff would return with clarified account numbers where needed.
The meeting adjourned after the votes and routine closing procedures.
