Fairfax County's legislative committee on Sept. 17 took a first look at how staff will evaluate and implement new local-option authorities approved by the General Assembly this year.
Ms. Arco, the committee's legislative staff lead, described a formal review process begun in 2018 in which county legislative staff, the county attorney's office and agency directors assess newly granted authority and recommend whether and how the Board of Supervisors should exercise it. She said that process complements staff work to implement new statutory requirements and helps the board weigh optional authorities that may or may not fit county practice.
