James City County Planning Commission approves zoning housekeeping amendment to align with state code

The James City County Planning Commission unanimously approved Ordinance 24-0004 on Dec. 4, 2024, amending Section 24-24 of the county zoning ordinance to bring the county code into alignment with Virginia state law.
Deputy County Attorney Liz Parman told commissioners the amendment clarifies that, in addition to delinquent real estate taxes, the county may require applicants to provide evidence that nuisance charges, stormwater management utility fees and other county charges tied to a property have been paid before land-use approvals are issued. Staff recommended the initiating resolution and the draft ordinance for the commission’s consideration.
With no members of the public signed up to speak during the public hearing, Commissioner Polster moved to approve the initiating resolution and later moved final approval of the ordinance. The roll-call votes were unanimous.
