Board approves two rezoning requests; one amended to mixed residential

The Henry County Board of Supervisors held public hearings Nov. 26 on two rezoning petitions and approved both after hearing staff and public input.
Planning Director Lee Clark described R-24-12, a request by Edward and Iris Gillespie to rezone 2.67 acres from suburban residential to agricultural for agricultural use. No members of the public requested to comment; the planning commission and staff recommended approval and the board voted to approve the rezoning.
The board then considered R-24-13, an application by John/Kate Adams to rezone property at Stonecrest Road and Bittersweet Drive. The planning commission and staff recommended denial of the applicant’s original request for rural residential, citing the area’s suburban-residential character. During the hearing the applicant indicated a willingness to amend the application to mixed residential; staff and the planning commission said they would have recommended approval of the mixed-residential designation. A motion to approve the rezoning as modified to mixed residential passed 6-0. Planning staff noted that once rezoned, a property remains under the new district until changed by a later application, and a manufactured home placed on a permanent foundation would only require a building permit.
The board instructed staff to record the rezoning actions and update county maps and permitting guidance as appropriate.
