The Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors approved two land-use rezoning requests and adopted an ordinance amending county code for Board of Equalization deadlines at its Oct. 15 meeting.
Rezoning PDash24-1099606 (Terry parcels): County planning staff recommended approval to rezone two parcels to R‑1 Residential Limited so the homeowners could build an addition and meet the 15-foot side setback required in R‑1. The applicant said the addition would add a bathroom to their home. The land-development committee and planning staff supported the rezoning and the board voted to approve it.
Rezoning PDash24-13 (Plain Court — Williams family): The Williams family requested rezoning from R‑1 to A‑2 Agricultural General to place a manufactured home on a 1.875-acre parcel. Staff and the Planning Commission recommended approval after reviewing compatibility with the surrounding mix of single-family and manufactured homes and noting required private driveway entrance improvements. Board members discussed access and easement details with the applicant and approved the rezoning on roll call.
Board of Equalization ordinance: County staff proposed amendments to section 19‑9 of the county code. The board set the deadline to apply for the Board of Equalization at Feb. 18, 2025 (the Tuesday after Presidents' Day) and established a deadline for the Board of Equalization to complete dispositions by May 30. The ordinance also set BOE member compensation at $162.43 per meeting (approximately $150 after payroll taxes), aligning BOE pay with other county boards.
Votes: Each rezoning and the ordinance amendment were adopted by roll-call vote at the Oct. 15 meeting.
Why it matters: The rezoning approvals allow property owners to modify and use their land consistent with local planning recommendations; the BOE deadline changes establish a predictable schedule for property appeals and set compensation that staff said matches similar boards.
What’s next: Applicants may proceed under the new zoning classifications and staff will implement the BOE schedule and compensation changes.
