County receives updates: VDOT bridge work, Richard Bland College plans and John Tyler ASAP data

A VDOT representative reported that the Route 703 bridge detour remains in place while crews repave the deck and that a specialized grooving machine delay will keep the bridge under single-lane operation until early December; VDOT also described resurfacing, mowing and a new message board plan on I‑85.
Terrell Robinson of Richard Bland College highlighted student and program growth, including a rise in dual-enrollment at Dinwiddie High School, the college’s academic-innovation center, new athletics and a proposal to pursue independent governance; the college asked the board to re-adopt a resolution of support for that legislative effort.
Ashley and her ASAP colleagues presented John Tyler Alcohol Safety Action Program statistics and services for Dinwiddie, reporting 667 crashes in 2023 (45 alcohol related), five alcohol-related fatalities in 2023 and a range of monitoring and treatment services, including ignition interlocks and continuous alcohol monitoring options.
Board members thanked presenters and asked for continued coordination on traffic and education priorities.
