Board approves resolution to participate in Kroger opioid settlement; county to opt in under Virginia MOU

Cumberland must formally opt in to participate; county outside litigation counsel recommended participation and the county attorney concurred.
The board adopted the resolution as presented, directing the county attorney and outside counsel to execute necessary settlement documents. The county attorney explained that the settlement includes a set-aside for attorney fees and the expectation is those set-asides — not additional county expenditures — will cover outside counsel costs, although participation could modestly change the county’s ultimate distribution share.
