Board recommends $20,000 for Glendale water system repairs and upgrades

The Kane County Economic Opportunity Board on Dec. 2 recommended $20,000 to support Glendale's urgent water infrastructure needs, after Mayor Spencer described multiple system failures and the risk of losing a critical spring.
Mayor Spencer said the town faces a failing pump, an undersized feed line that risks damaging the spring and an aging storage tank. An engineering assessment cited pipe and storage upgrades that would help preserve spring flow and improve storage; the mayor described total project estimates in the larger capital-project range but said local match funding is needed to pursue larger loans and state or federal grants.
Board members acknowledged the project's urgency and the mayor's efforts to seek other funding sources, including past CDBG efforts and possible state and federal applications. Speaker 11 moved the recommendation to award $20,000 for Glendale's infrastructure needs; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. The board will forward the recommendation to the full county commission for final action.
The board noted county funds are already set aside for municipal projects and asked county staff to include the Glendale funding in the referral packet for commission consideration.
