Road Department staff explained the project is part of a CIB-funded facility intended to serve county road crews, the sheriff’s office and other county users. Staff said the low bid was $232,912.53 and recommended approval; the contract will use a keyed (code) fueling system for county vehicles and a computerized data-download feature for usage reporting.
Commissioners asked about site conditions and potential extra charges for rock or shale during excavation; staff said limited soil sampling was done when the building went in and do not anticipate hard rock at the tank pad, though the contract includes a clause for additional underground-installation charges if rock or other obstructions are encountered.
Action and context: The commission approved the bid unanimously. Staff said the funding will come through the CIB loan/grant mechanism and the county’s asset inventory will be updated to include the new facility.
