Council members spent much of the Oct. 24 work meeting on roads, grants and park projects, describing tight local funds and several short‑term and longer‑term options.
Public-works and council members said the town’s available road funds are limited (staff cited roughly $66,000–$84,000 in local budget lines) and that next year’s town portion of Main Canyon Road phase 2 could be about $84,000, a figure that could rise with inflation. They discussed bidding options, including contracting with regional firms such as Geneva Rock and using rotomill or other less‑expensive surface treatments for residential streets.
The council reviewed possible grant sources — Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Transportation Alternatives (TAP) matching funds were mentioned — and said timing and application details will be important. Members also discussed impact fees collected by Wasatch County when the county issues building permits and asked staff to pursue a breakdown of funds the town currently receives and whether the town can secure a share to offset road damage caused by new construction.
On parks and trails, staff reported progress on a new trail and tree planting; contractors placed trees and benches, and staff will bolt benches to prevent theft. The council praised contractor performance and said minor cosmetic items and winter maintenance remain. Members asked staff to continue to pursue grants and match funds for residential road work and to bring a detailed budget breakdown to a future meeting.
No formal vote occurred on budgets or contracts at the meeting; council directed staff to prepare bids and grant information and to return with specific recommendations and cost breakdowns.
