The Emery County Travel Bureau on Nov. 12 discussed plans to repair and rebrand two city-facing billboards in Green River and agreed to draft a memorandum of understanding with the city before committing funds.
Staff said the travel office would likely cover design and installation costs but not pay a lease fee, with a production estimate of about $2,500 per face and a total likely in the $5,000–$8,000 range for the two freeway boards. Speaker 2 said the travel bureau’s plan is to make the signs “something that’s a Green River destination” that will drive business into the town’s main street.
Board members emphasized the need for a written agreement and a design-approval process that includes Green River officials. Speaker 5 said the city may want input on final designs and the travel bureau plans to work with a small working group—rather than the full city council—on approvals so the process moves efficiently.
Members also discussed which signs would be affected: one board close to the freeway that currently advertises events and a separate in-town face (the John Wesley Powell Recreation Museum sign) slated for renewal later. Several members said replacing weathered or defunct faces would also be a local beautification project.
No formal vote was taken; staff were instructed to take the travel bureau’s preferences to Green River’s council, draft an MOU that documents responsibilities and design approval, and return with a proposed agreement or an email update.
Next steps: staff will consult city council contacts to confirm approval expectations, finalize production dimensions and cost estimates, and bring an MOU draft back to the travel bureau for formal action.
