Duchesne County approves road approach, predator contract and routine business items

Duchesne County commissioners approved a package of routine business and contracts at their Nov. 4 meeting, including one road approach permit, a predator‑control contract with the state, business licenses and a set of financial and personnel items.
Approach permits: The commission approved approach plan 24‑052 for Barry Petroleum (Echo Pack/Grass Road location) by motion and voice vote. A separate approach, 24‑054, was returned to the applicant for reevaluation after staff and commissioners raised safety concerns about narrow shoulders, close fences and nearby power lines; the board directed the applicant to work with the road department to bring the route to truck‑route standard before resubmission.
Wildlife contract: Commissioners reviewed a contract with the State of Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (Administrative Services, agency code 570) to support predator control during heavy‑snow years — including helicopter assistance when needed. The board approved the contract by motion; staff indicated the county budgeted $1,500 for the contract and would cover additional needs if heavy weather required more resources.
Licenses, finance and personnel: The commission approved several business licenses, affirmed a Board of Equalization recommendation to uphold an assessed value for a parcel at $54,900, approved presented vouchers and tax adjustments (excluding certain state items), and accepted the payroll report showing 218 employees and a payroll period amount of $809,966.14. Commissioners also authorized the surplus of county equipment and offered a damaged sweeper to Duchesne City for scrap value.
Appointments and boards: The board reappointed Shay Long, Tara Evans and Jason Wells to a county board, and approved the appointment of Irene Hansen to the Tri County Health Board beginning in January, with one abstention recorded on that vote. The commission closed the meeting with routine calendaring and adjourned after announcements.
No litigation, ordinance adoptions or budget appropriations beyond the routine contract authorization were taken at the meeting.
