The Duchesne County Commission approved the acquisition of land for a new road shed during its Oct. 7 meeting, describing the site as higher ground with room for the county’s road operations and future expansion. Commissioners said the current shop lacks space and is vulnerable to flooding.
Public Works Director Mike Casper outlined the operational need and the advantages of the site. A commissioner identified the parcel as about 22 acres; the initial motion recorded a purchase price of $247,000 but the commission later amended the acreage and changed the figure to $240,160 to reflect the correct acreage of 224.016 (roughly 22 acres). The motion to purchase and the subsequent amendment were both seconded and passed unanimously.
Commissioners said staff would file paperwork with the recorder’s office and coordinate a signing with the Madsons and county staff. Casper said staff will submit an application to the county’s revitalization fund to help finance construction of a new road shed.
No votes were recorded against the purchase; commissioners requested follow-up from county staff on maps and UDOT approvals where applicable.
