Speaker 8 (county staff) said the chamber would facilitate attracting tenants, collect rent and help manage maintenance. "The rent for the previous occupant of the building was a thousand dollars a month," staff noted when discussing potential rents and lease terms. Part of the rent would go to the chamber to cover management and upkeep and the chamber and tenants could do in‑kind work such as weed removal and painting.
Staff discussed one immediate repair need: a replacement garage door and later window repairs; the county and chamber proposed using chamber funds to replace the garage door and then have rent payments contribute to repayment. The agreement envisions flexible lease terms tailored to each business and an incubator model that could help businesses grow into independently owned properties over time.
The commission moved and approved the management agreement (motion Speaker 6; second Speaker 5). Commissioners asked staff to return with lease details as tenants are identified.
Next steps: the chamber will begin outreach to potential tenants, staff will pursue cost estimates for the garage door and window repairs and the county will finalize lease templates for incoming tenants.
