Garfield County commissioners voted to provide $5,000 to support the 'Nashville Stars over Bryce Canyon' music event, a two-night performance planned for Aug. 1–2 on the rim.
Event organizer (Speaker 3) described a multi-day program that includes songwriter shows and a larger rim performance aimed at locals and tourists. "We're looking at, our target is 80," Speaker 3 said when asked about the fundraising goal; the speaker confirmed this referred to $80,000 in total fundraising.
Commissioners discussed funding options including event funds managed through the county travel council and a passthrough arrangement with Bryce Canyon City to accept donations. The organizer said the event could use a Bryce Canyon City passthrough if the county travel-council process cannot accept direct contributions from the organizer's group. Speaker 6 moved to allocate $5,000 and Speaker 2 seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
Speakers said a portion of the commission contribution would come from travel-council event funds where allowable and that the city could act as a passthrough for sponsorships if necessary. The organizer told commissioners she hoped to finalize fundraising by Dec. 31 so planning could begin in early February.
