Davis County — The Davis County Board of Health voted on Sept. 9 to convene a committee of board members, water-district representatives and outside experts to review recent scientific and legal developments on community water fluoridation and to produce recommendations for the county commission, including possible ballot timing.
Neil Geddes of the county attorney’s office opened the discussion with an overview of the Safe Drinking Water Act (Title 19) and related state code, telling the board that the state drinking-water board sets rules and that removal of fluoridation in a locality generally occurs by public vote. Geddes and county staff emphasized that local health departments have limited authority under state statute: they oversee supplier compliance with NSF/ANSI Standard 60 and batch certificates of analysis and may order temporary removal only if suppliers fail to meet those specific requirements.
