The amendment requests $15,500 to cover additional public-defense costs and $80,000 for appellate defense resources connected to a backlog of cases, corrects an earlier entry to move Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) funds into Fund 29 for public-health transportation expenses, and records a $5,000,000 transfer tied to the Miller judgment into Fund 61.
The presenter said Fund 61 will also show a $5,000,000 increase in revenue tied to a claims-recovery transfer and noted an accompanying increase in claim-service expenses. The presenter explained that revenue and expense lines do not always match because some claims lack third-party recoveries, meaning the county sometimes pays expenses that are not fully reimbursed.
Committee members approved a motion to go into a closed session to discuss pending or reasonably imminent litigation under statutory authority cited for closed meetings; no decisions about litigation were announced after the closed session. Chris Bone, introduced at roll call as human resources, made the motion to go into closed session and the motion carried by voice vote.
