Some participants asked whether it might be cheaper to rent equipment; Rhodes and others said high seasonal demand makes rentals unreliable and the department has sometimes borrowed equipment from Public Works.
The group discussed a countywide fleet-management proposal under development; staff said commissioners have seen front-end materials but the full six-year plan and implementation details remain incomplete. Participants asked whether fleet replacement and maintenance will be centralized or remain department-level decisions; staff said that is still being determined and that more information would be provided.
Attendees asked staff to break out the equipment line items and email detailed quotes so commissioners can evaluate size, capacity and cost alternatives. No formal action was taken at the meeting.
