Charles City supervisors accept small donations, pay Crater district balance and approve election tabulator purchase

At its Dec. 19 meeting, the Charles City County Board of Supervisors approved a set of routine financial items from contingency funds.
Finance staff asked the board to accept $1,655 in donations earmarked largely for the sheriff departments "shopping with the sheriff" holiday program; a motion to accept the funds passed unanimously. The board also approved a $200 donation to Fire and EMS to support departmental training.
Staff explained that the county had approved a $10,000 FY24 contribution to the Crater Planning District Commission but that the Commissions accounts increased during the year and left a remaining balance of $4,402 owed; the board approved paying that balance from the contingency fund and increasing the FY25 contribution by $4,402 to satisfy the Commissions request.
The registrars office reported it purchased a county-owned polling-place scanner/tabulator for $9,250 due to high demand during the recent election; the purchase was not budgeted and staff requested contingency funds to cover it. The board approved the use of contingency funds for that purchase.
All motions on these items were approved unanimously; supervisors recorded aye votes from Patterson, Hill and the presiding chair. Staff said documentation and checks accompanied the donation requests and that invoices and memos supported the Crater request.
