Charles City Board selects Marsh McLennan Agency as county health-insurance broker

The Charles City County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) as the countys health-insurance broker at its Dec. 19 meeting.
Phil Howard, a strategic consultant with MMA, told the board the firm would assign two consultants, three account managers and other staff to support benefits administration, compliance and wellness programs. "If we were fortunate enough to earn Charles City's business, we would be able to have 2 consultants, myself and Beth Howard," Howard said, outlining MMAs approach to benefits education, compliance and carrier negotiation.
Supervisors asked who on county staff would coordinate implementation; the county identified Miss Poe and Miss Danson as the staff leads. Supervisor Patterson moved to proceed with MMA based on "their services, cost savings, and improved health care affordability," and the board voted unanimously to approve the recommendation.
The board said it looks forward to staff and the broker working together on benchmarking, enrollment materials and wellness programming. No contract amount or transition timeline was announced at the meeting; staff said those implementation details will be provided later for board review.
