Commissioner identified as Speaker 1 told the panel the county has partnered with the Seven County Infrastructure Coalition on the project and that GOEO had provided funding to cover work on the NEPA study. He said the original developer has been unreachable and staff are looking for another partner while proceeding with the environmental process. "GOEO has been a great partner," Speaker 1 said during the discussion.
Staff reported the application for the project had been submitted to the Forest Service last week and that the seven-county approval needed for the application had been secured. Commissioners asked for clarity about the length of the requested extension; Speaker 1 said the county would request an 18-month extension and noted that the original grant term ran into January 2025.
Speaker 2 moved to proceed with the letter to GOEO requesting an 18-month extension and Speaker 1 seconded. The commission approved the motion by voice vote.
Next steps include finalizing and signing the letter and continuing the NEPA process while staff pursues a development partner. The commission did not set a formal deadline for subsequent updates beyond standard project reporting.
