Commission approves $6,282 change order to add check valve, prevent loss of up to 1 million gallons from Dutch John tank

Sunrise Engineering representative Brian Meyer told the Daggett County Commission on Nov. 12 that a recommended change order is needed for the Dutch John water tank project to add a check valve (backflow preventer) and an RFCA coupling on the inlet from the dam.
Meyer said the devices are necessary because, if the inlet line were to break, "we would lose a million gallons of water, real quick." The firm recommended approval of a change order totaling $6,282.41, which staff and the engineer said would include installation and would keep the tank portion of the project under budget (the project would still be approximately $26,000 under budget on the tank portion after the change order).
The commission moved, seconded and approved the change order by voice vote. Staff requested signatures on the change-order paperwork and attendees asked for a copy of the change order for the record.
Next steps: execution of the change order (signatures), installation by the contractor and documentation that the project remains under budget.
