Rodeo advisory board to reissue RFP; committee to seek Utah Outdoor Rec and maintenance grants

Members of the rodeo advisory board reported at the Nov. 12 Daggett County meeting that an engineer review of previous grandstand plans found the bids appropriate but noted liability concerns with one bid. The board recommended reissuing the RFP to attract additional bidders and potentially obtain more competitive pricing.
The committee reported $122,000 remaining from a rural county grant that can be applied to the grandstand. The rodeo committee plans to apply to Utah Outdoor Recreation for a $200,000 grant to cover the road to the grandstands; that program awards grants in spring (decisions expected by May) and funds are reimbursable and available beginning July 1. Commissioners agreed that reissuing the RFP could allow fabrication during winter and erection in spring, subject to funding receipt; temporary construction fencing was discussed as an option to allow junior rodeos to proceed if construction overlaps events.
Commissioners and the rodeo committee agreed to reissue the RFP promptly and pursue the grant and maintenance funding options.
