Daggett County commissioners spent substantial time Oct. 8 reviewing the road department’s recommended project list and discussing priorities for pavement and gravel work.
Road department representatives and commissioners said Clay Basin’s asphalt overlay should be the first priority, followed by chip seal on roads that are overdue for treatment. Commissioners identified subsequent pavement projects including State Line Road, Benyon, Birch Creek and South Valley. Sean (the road department representative, present but noted as outside at one point) confirmed the list was recommended by the district and asked the commission to sign off on it for continuity with district planning.
Commissioners discussed Diamond Mountain, noting limited local gravel sources and the difficulty and expense of hauling fresh material to the backside of the county. Options cited included hauling during grading rotations, piggybacking on other hauls, or buying from a local pit where available. The commission noted past grant efforts for State Line Road (an earlier FLAP application was not funded) and discussed preparing another grant application with a possible Nov. 23 deadline that could fund paving from Main Street to Airport Road if awarded.
No formal action to approve a prioritized, ranked list was recorded; the discussion focused on clarifying priorities for staff, coordinating with the road district, and planning for grant submittals.
