Daggett County advances health clinic schematic toward detailed design

Daggett County commissioners on Sept. 24 reviewed revised schematic designs for a proposed new health clinic and agreed to move the project into a more detailed design phase.
Bart Jensen of Jones & DeMille, who presented the plans, said the layout, exterior elevations and interior programing are set sufficiently to bring structural, electrical, HVAC and plumbing engineers on board and advance the design toward roughly a 60% package. "If you all like what you see for the schematic layout and design, we're ready to move forward," Jensen said.
The architecture team and county staff walked commissioners through several specific interior issues still under refinement. The design includes a pharmacy area; project representatives said they can adjust nonstructural interior partitions but warned that larger post-design changes would add cost. The serving space adjacent to the hallway was reviewed in detail: stakeholders suggested using residential-depth refrigeration and smaller counters rather than a commercial double-wide refrigerator to preserve circulation. Project staff recommended consulting a commercial kitchen specialist if the county ultimately opts for cooking appliances that would trigger additional ventilation and code requirements.
Designers also described a new vestibule and a revised exercise-room layout that removes several dead-end corridors in the basement, and noted locations for mechanical chases to carry flues and service runs. The team said audio-visual equipment would be racked in an IT/media closet with minimal floor footprint; that layout change could free space in the serving area.
Next steps: the firm requested a digital signature from the chair to authorize the contract amendment and continue into engineering and 60% design work. Commissioners asked staff to confirm final appliance selections and to involve HVAC and AV consultants before locking those details. The project team will return with engineering cost estimates and any code-driven changes required by commercial kitchen equipment choices.
