Ashley said animal care now has a veterinarian on site five days a week — a change staff expect will reduce transport costs and staff time — and that the six‑month contracts are intended to bridge the gap while the county hires a full‑time veterinarian. Staff reported 215 adoptions in August 2024 (36 dogs, 70 cats), and the commission voted unanimously to approve items 3–7, which cover those contracts and the adoption‑related grant summary.
