COG hears 11 transportation project presentations; many pitched as safety or connectivity improvements

Mayors and staff heard eleven project presentations at the Cache County Council of Governments meeting on May 20. Presenters emphasized safety, regional connectivity and readiness to bid; most projects are aimed at providing alternatives to Main Street congestion.
Highlights included Nibley’s Phase 5 connector, which requested $1,280,000 to complete the final segment and target completion by October 2025; Logan City’s Tenth North/Sixth West project, which seeks $3.2 million toward an $8 million total to add lanes and upgrade a railroad crossing; and Wellsville’s 900 East realignment — a spot-safety project asking near the $400,000 spot-improvement cap.
Millville outlined a small realignment and safety fix for an intersection with a past school-bus–involved crash and requested roughly $127,000; presenters said design and geotechnical studies are complete and construction could occur in spring/summer 2025. Cache County described a long-standing reconstruction need for 1200 East — a corridor with failing pavement and no active-transportation facilities — and proposed adding sidewalks and bike lanes to match recent development.
COG staff reminded members that the scoring memo reflects staff opinion intended to help mayors rank projects and that the committee can tweak final ordering in two weeks before forwarding recommendations to the County Council. No formal awards or final votes on individual projects were recorded at this meeting; members were asked to return their individual ranking sheets by the Friday following the meeting.
