Board approves FBO lease expansion and new site; Leading Edge outlines phased terminal plan

Leading Edge Aviation asked the Cache County Airport Authority Board for permission to move its existing fixed-base operator building to a new on-airport location, construct a 12,000-square-foot hangar and build a new terminal. The board voted to approve a lease expansion and a new site for the proposed maintenance shop.

Scott Weaver, representing Leading Edge, described a three-phase approach: complete engineering drawings and permits, relocate the existing FBO and foundation work (targeted for summer/fall 2025) and construct a new terminal (targeted for summer 2026). "We're asking for your support this morning to first, move our current FBO building to a new location on the airport, and then construct a new modern FBO terminal," Weaver said.

Architect Chris Slayton described design goals including an aeronautic-inspired palette, insulated metal panels and glass, and ancillary spaces for charter and business conferencing. Board members asked about the exact footprint, parking impacts and temporary relocation logistics; Weaver said the relocated building would be placed on a new 6-foot concrete foundation and the owners plan to repurpose the relocated building for piston maintenance and later turbine maintenance.

A board member moved and another seconded a motion to approve the lease expansion and the new site for the maintenance shop; the motion passed on a voice vote. Board members advised the applicants to coordinate with Logan City planning commission next, noting it can take about a month to get on the planning agenda.

Next steps: Leading Edge will pursue engineering, permitting and planning-commission review and work with the airport manager on lease terms and site details before construction.
