Board approves disbursements, grant appropriation, budget reclassification and routine appointments

At its November meeting the Brunswick County Board of Supervisors approved a package of routine finance and appointment items.
Finance: Finance Director reported five check registers totaling $7,016,774.91 and asked for board approval; the board moved, seconded and approved the disbursements. The county received a litter prevention and recycling grant for $15,234.19; staff recommended and the board approved appropriating the additional $3,221.90 to match the award. The finance director also requested a budget reclassification to move $2,517,836 of restricted interest revenue from the new school construction debt service fund (303) into the new school construction fund (313) for proper reporting; the board approved the transfer after questions clarified that it does not change the overall budget but is an accounting reclass.
Circuit court law clerk: Finance presented a request from Chief Judge W. Edward Tomko III to increase the shared law clerk salary to $65,000 to align with surrounding jurisdictions; Brunswick currently shares the position with other localities. The finance committee recommended allocating an additional $3,000 from the undesignated general fund balance for FY25 to cover Brunswick’s share; the board approved the appropriation.
Appointments: The board approved reappointment of Deborah Davis to the Board of Zoning Appeals (to be sent to circuit court for final approval), appointed Zachariah Davis to the litter control council, reappointed Hercule Clark to the Lake Country Area Agency on Aging Board, and reappointed Capt. Dwayne T. Jones to the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program board. Motions carried by voice votes.
All items were approved by the board and will be recorded in the official minutes and implemented by the appropriate departments.
