Campbell County’s Fiscal Court formally swore in two new police officers and recognized a long-serving volunteer during its meeting.
Judge Bendrick called the meeting to order and introduced Jeremy Newberry to assist with the swearing-in of new officers identified in the record as Eric Schmichler and Storm Hanger. Newberry described the training pathway for new hires: a 20-week program at the Richmond Criminal Justice Training Center followed by roughly 12 weeks of field training with a field training officer. "They're in the midst of that now," Newberry said, noting the process is lengthy.
Judge Bendrick administered the oath of office to the officers and asked them to sign the required paperwork for the county record. After the oath, the judge congratulated the officers and emphasized community support for the police department, saying the department "has seemed to me to be very tight" and that new officers would have the backing of county employees and residents.
The court also presented a certificate of appreciation to volunteer Bruce Siri, recognizing his service to the Campbell County Police Department since February (year indicated in the record). Jeremy Newberry read the certificate and thanked Siri for the hours he has devoted to assisting department operations.
The swearing-in and recognition included family members and a closing photo opportunity; the court framed the occasions as part of broader efforts to support local public safety staffing and volunteer engagement. The meeting then proceeded to new business.
