Board approves five-year Innovation STEM Academy charter agreement with phased enrollment ratios

The Sparta Area School District board voted to approve a new five-year charter agreement for the Innovation STEM Academy (ISA) after a governance-board negotiation process.
District staff and ISA representatives described negotiated language that phases class-loading ratios: the school will move from current ratios (1:18) toward 19:1 in the first three years and an eventual 20:1 target in years four and five. The ISA governance board passed the agreement unanimously and the district will forward the agreement to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for review.
Board members thanked ISA governance representatives for their collaboration and highlighted the variety of educational options the district supports. The board moved to approve the charter agreement; the motion was seconded and recorded as carrying seven-zero on voice vote.
The agreement will be administered under customary DPI review procedures and the district will monitor implementation against the phased ratio commitments.
