Augusta County supervisors voted to buy a PL Custom ambulance at a price of $429,394, using cooperative HGAC pricing, during their regular meeting.
The county’s fire and EMS chief told the board the department follows a 10-year replacement plan for its 10 ambulances (seven frontline, three reserves) and runs frontline units to roughly 100,000 miles before rotating them to reserve status. "The price of this ambulance is $429,394 that includes the HGAC," the chief said, and he told members delivery has shortened from about 36 months last year to approximately 24–27 months now.
Board members questioned whether the county should solicit separate competitive bids. The chief said the county uses a developed specification and that Goodman (the vendor) builds to that specification; he also reported comparable recent prices from neighboring localities and said manufacturers told him that buying outside the HGAC cooperative might cost more. "They're all in the same price range," he said, noting some variance by manufacturer and model.
A motion to approve the contract was moved and seconded and the board voted to pass the motion.
What happens next: staff will sign the purchase order and proceed with the procurement and delivery process under the cooperative agreement; the board did not specify additional funding or budget amendments during the public portion of the discussion.
Vote/procedure note: The transcript records a motion and a formal vote with the chair stating the motion "passed."
