Supervisor warns Solid Waste Authority could forfeit millions in incentives if it does not meet to review WasteTech plan

During board-member comments, Supervisor Mister Early pressed for immediate action by the Regional Landfill Authority to hear a presentation from WasteTech and to consider a nonbinding letter that would allow the project to move forward. Early warned the authority’s failure to convene could jeopardize incentives for the project.
"By doing nothing, you're not doing your job," Mister Early said, arguing that the Solid Waste Authority must meet in December to give WasteTech "a thumbs up or thumbs down" on proceeding. He told the supervisors the potential value at risk was "anywhere from 1.7 to $2,500,000," saying the incentives run out Dec. 31.
Mister Watson said staff had requested documentation from WasteTech and that a special meeting had been scheduled previously when quorum issues prevented a decision; Watson said he had received an email from WasteTech that day but had not yet replied. Board members and staff disagreed about the authority’s bylaws: one member read the bylaws as requiring bimonthly meetings, while staff indicated the authority had been operating on a quarterly schedule and could call a special meeting if needed.
The board did not take a formal vote on scheduling an emergency meeting during this session, but members asked that someone on the authority call a meeting so the authority and the county can obtain the additional information and determine whether to support the project. The matter remained unresolved at adjournment.
