PSA staff member Mike told the board engineers had recommended against using a 2‑inch main for runs longer than 300 feet and described a 6‑inch option of about 1,500 feet that he estimated would cost in the range of roughly $48,000 to $60,000 depending on design choices and hydrant needs. "We're still working, trying to get participation... the engineers sent out the RFP... and then we'll start evaluating those and try to get them approved," Mike said while reviewing the Exit 1 wastewater project and other capital needs.
Board members discussed how many homes would benefit. Participants cited two immediate houses nearest the sawmill and a broader set of roughly seven to nine homes along the route depending on the extent of the extension. Mike said a tap was stubbed near the sawmill and that hydrants and a looped connection would increase cost and system value.
After discussion about alternatives, permits and potential financing sources — including an Economic Development Authority match Mike said of $40,000 in the packet — a board member moved to authorize staff to pursue funding and to move forward with the 6‑inch option; another member seconded. The board voted unanimously to carry the motion. The chair summarized that the motion authorized staff to "move forward with the project and to look at putting in a 6‑inch line" and to search for the possibility of re‑evaluating a 2‑inch option if appropriate.
The meeting packet also included mention that the Exit 1 wastewater project had two screening technologies bid — a mechanical screen and an automatic basket — and that both screens are required by the facility's consent order. Staff said SCADA work remains delayed in spots by storm damage and outstanding electrical service/easement work.
