Court recognizes heritage farm, reappoints library trustee and hears Family Resource Center request

During the Dec. 12 session the Gallatin County Fiscal Court paused to recognize a family farm for more than a century of continuous ownership, reappointed a library trustee and heard a public comment from the Family Resource Center.

Heritage Farm recognition: County leaders and Conservation District representatives presented a heritage farm sign to a family that has kept the farm in the same family since the late 1800s. Remarks emphasized agriculture’s conservation role and the social value of long-term family farms. Ben Sackler from the Conservation District joined the presentation and the family accepted the sign and spoke briefly about their history.

Library Board appointment: The Library Board’s submission to reappoint Joni Rogers to a four-year term was moved and seconded; the court approved the appointment by voice vote. Sherry Ferguson was identified as the secondary nominee if needed.

Public comment — Family Resource Center: Carrie Tackett, representing the Family Resource Center, thanked the court for continued funding and reported the center serves more than 330 children and up to roughly 902 families through programs such as 'shop with the sheriff' and other interventions; she provided data and offered to share the full report with court members.

These items were presented as part of the meeting’s non-controversial agenda and were approved or recognized by voice vote without recorded roll-call tallies. The court moved on to substantive budget and infrastructure business following the community items.
