Gallatin County Fiscal Court approved several budget and finance items during its Dec. 12 meeting, including the sheriff’s budget and the county clerk’s budget for 2025, related salary maximums, and two budget amendments to record grant awards.
Sheriff’s budget and salaries: The sheriff presented a 2025 budget with few changes from the prior year and noted a projected $27,000 physical-court contribution adjustment. The court approved the sheriff’s budget for calendar year 2025. The court also set an order establishing a maximum aggregate salary amount for deputies, assistants and other sheriff employees at $874,341.67 for 2025, and approved it by voice vote.
Clerk’s budget: The county clerk’s 2025 budget was presented in the clerk’s absence and approved by the court. The court set the annual maximum salary amount for the clerk’s deputies and assistants at $175,000 for calendar year 2025 and approved the order.
Budget amendments and transfers: On second and final reading, the court approved Budget Amendment No. 4 to record a $684,000 past-due Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Triad Health Systems into the LGDA account. The court also approved Budget Amendment No. 5, recording a portion of a Safe Routes to School grant totaling $40,000; staff said a committee led by Sherry Broderick will work with local schools on crosswalks, lighting and designated walking routes.
Other finance actions: The court approved routine monthly bills, various interfund cash transfers (including $65,000 from general to jail and transfers for ambulance and wireless/911 accounts), and a short-term CD purchase funded by rental sale proceeds. Members discussed interest rates and earmarked project funds; motions for transfers and amendments were seconded and approved by voice votes.
Several items were tabled or held pending documentation: the court tabled Nucor bond paperwork until requested legal documentation is provided by Nucor, with an expectation of a special meeting once materials arrive.
Votes and next steps: Motions to approve budgets, salary orders, and the two amendments were made and seconded; the court recorded those approvals by voice votes during the meeting. Staff and counsel will follow up on investment and earmark reconciliation details and present any required paperwork at future sessions.
