Frankfort — Franklin County fiscal court on Nov. 6 approved a motion to participate in a nationally distributed PBS 'Viewpoint' segment introduced by actor Dennis Quaid, contingent on matching contributions from the city of Frankfort and the local development corporation.
Penny, the executive director who arranged the proposed production, described the segment as a 3–6 minute educational spot about doing business in the county that would air multiple times on PBS stations and be repurposable for local marketing. She said underwriting fees total roughly $25,900 plus about $3,400 for an on-site shoot — approximately $29,300.
Treasurer Amy said interest from a matured certificate of deposit could offset the county’s share if the court approved using those funds. Several magistrates said they supported the exposure but requested written commitments from the city of Frankfort and KCDC before the county signed a contract; the court’s authorization was recorded as contingent on the city’s participation.
The court also asked for guarantees that the county would have final approval of messaging and unobstructed access to all b-roll and raw footage for future reuse. The motion approving the agreement passed during the voting session with one recorded vote against.
