Rowan County’s fiscal court on Oct. 15 authorized a suite of procurement actions to support road operations and administrative modernization.
The court approved spending up to $101,453 with Norman, Story and Associates to install lifts and air compressors at the road department and authorized payment from account 846500406. Officials noted a roughly two-month lead time for the lifts. "It is hereby ordered fiscal court authorize the purchase and pay Norman, Story and Associates for the installation of lifts and air compressors ... not to exceed $101,453," the judge said.
The court also approved electrical contracting work (Goodman Electric LLC) for about $25,000 to ready the new road facility — new lighting, switch panels and conduit — and authorized the county to proceed.
To prepare for winter operations, commissioners approved purchasing two salt-dog spreaders (total $15,108) to replace old chain drags on trucks and authorized surplus of the old spreaders. Additionally, court authorized purchasing a 30-inch grapple/ditching bucket from Boyd Cat for $3,868.94 to replace a worn excavator bucket.
On the administrative side, the court approved purchasing inspection tracking software from Simply Paperless with a 50% down payment of $12,100 (budgeted); the county treasurer was authorized to remit payment from account 015091318.
What happens next: vendors will be engaged to schedule installations and deliveries; older equipment will be declared surplus and listed for public sale or salvage.
