The McPherson County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 23 heard routine reports, approved several consent items and entered an executive session to discuss personnel.
In public input and weekly reports, a staff member identified as Jerry reported the county jail had 49 inmates: 43 males and 6 females. Of those, 41 were held for district court and 8 for municipal court; staff also reported one long-term inmate was transferred out and one correctional officer position remained open.
The board approved the meeting agenda and later approved the minutes from Sept. 16. Staff presented checks and payroll items requiring approval; Speaker 3 moved to approve the accounts-payable items as presented and the motion carried.
Commissioners discussed scheduling through the holidays and plans for an employee appreciation lunch in November (catered, on the Fifth Floor). They also discussed coordinating a meeting with city officials and state legislators and agreed to set dates and notify the cities and representatives.
Later in the meeting Speaker 3 moved the board into a 20-minute executive session to include County Administrator Rick Whitty or non-elected personnel; Speaker 1 seconded, ayes were recorded, and no public action was taken while in executive session. The board then approved a recess until 08:00/09:00 on the date of the McPherson County Housing Conference.
Next steps: personnel matters will remain confidential per executive-session rules; routine financial items approved will be processed by county staff.
