McPherson County OKs $50,000 engineering agreement for Arapahoe Road bridge design

John (county staff) told commissioners the $50,000 proposal, dated Sept. 30, 2024, covers design tasks for up to three years and includes labor, overhead, travel, printing and other project costs. He said construction of the bridge would likely occur in 2026 and that "the rest of that will be paid by KDOT, the majority of that bridge," though he did not specify the exact KDOT share.
A commissioner moved to approve the agreement and authorize the chairman to sign. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
County staff said the $50,000 will cover the engineering work through the design phase; if the work extends beyond three years, additional fees would apply. Commissioners asked about the contract amount and scope before voting but did not request a formal amendment on the floor.
Next steps include finalizing the signed agreement and initiating the design work with Kirkham Michael. Construction scheduling and funding beyond design will be coordinated with KDOT and reported back to the board during subsequent meetings.
