Clerk outlines absentee and early voting schedule; court approves election officers

The county clerk provided an election update at the Oct. 22 Christian County Fiscal Court meeting, outlining deadlines and schedules for absentee and early voting and asking the court to approve election officers for in‑house absentee and early voting.

The clerk told the court that the mail‑ballot request portal closes the night of the meeting and emphasized Eastern Standard Time for deadlines. "So tonight, 11:59 Eastern Standard Time is the close of the portal for you to request an absentee ballot to be mailed," the clerk said. The clerk said more than 1,000 ballots were mailed and about 340 had been returned as of the report.

Clerk explained that in‑house absentee voting would begin at the courthouse the following day and run for six days during regular office hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). The clerk listed three early‑voting locations (Bruce Convention Center, Walnut Street Center/Boys & Girls Club, and the Senior Citizen Center) and said early voting would begin on Halloween with location hours and a separate schedule for election day. The clerk also described drop‑box locations and encouraged voters to return marked ballots by election day.

After the presentation the court moved to approve election officers to staff in‑house absentee and early‑voting locations; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. County staff said flyers with detailed schedules were available and more information would be posted on the county's social media and website.
