Summary
The Midland Public Schools Board of Education held its organizational votes Jan. 16, adopting a slate of officers (President Phil Rausch; Vice President Scott McFarland; Secretary John Hatfield; Treasurer John Lauterbach) and appointing study-committee chairs and representatives for the year.
The Midland Public Schools Board of Education adopted its 2024 leadership slate and committee assignments at its combined organizational and regular meeting on Jan. 16, 2024. The board approved the proposed officers — President Phil Rausch, Vice President Scott McFarland, Secretary John Hatfield and Treasurer John Lauterbach — which took effect immediately after a voice vote.
The board also announced committee appointments for the year. Phil Rausch named members for Administrative Services; Finance, Facilities and Operations; Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment; and Human Resources study committees, and listed representatives to the Clare and Gladwin RESD and other district advisory groups. Rausch read the slate and said the three-person nominating committee had submitted the recommendation.
Board members moved and seconded the slate and other organizational motions in standard form. In addition to committee rosters, the board approved its 2024 calendar of regular and special meetings and reiterated a standing practice to report resignations and hires on subsequent agendas. The motion to adopt the meeting dates included a note that April 15 will be a budget workshop.
The organizational votes were part of a single evening of business that also included routine designations and operational approvals. The meeting concluded after approval of remaining agenda items and a motion to adjourn.
The board will meet in a special session on Jan. 29 to receive the district leadership profile as part of the superintendent search process.
