Mount Pleasant Area SD to retrofit junior-senior high with LED lighting after state grant

Mount Pleasant Area SD’s business manager announced the district has been awarded a public school facilities improvement grant to replace an obsolete lighting control system and convert the junior-senior high building to LED lighting. "The total project cost estimate is $926,420," the business manager said, adding the state will contribute $694,815 and the district will cover $231,605.
The presenters said the existing lighting control runs on an out-of-date system that cannot be upgraded; the director of maintenance said the controller operates on an old Windows XP computer, leaving staff to turn lights on and off manually at times. The district reported the junior-senior high paid about $332,000 in electric costs last year and expects that LED fixtures and improved controls will cut energy bills and reduce maintenance, noting the building currently spends roughly $4,800–$5,000 per year on fluorescent lamps and ballasts.
SiteLogic assisted with the grant application and will manage the bidding through the district’s energy-savings program. Presenters said they are in the design phase now, with SiteLogic on site, that bidding is expected in March and that construction is anticipated to start in June after students are dismissed and to be complete before the following school year.
District staff thanked SiteLogic and named state legislators who supported the award: Leslie Rossi, Eric Debanzo and Senator Kim Ward. Presenters said the upgrade will free up fund balance or future bond proceeds for other capital needs and that the stadium lighting and exterior work have already been completed at the site.
Next steps: finalize design this month and next, complete bidding through SiteLogic in March and prepare for construction to begin in June with the goal of finishing before school resumes in August.
