Board approves multiple consent items, personnel actions and a settlement; Romasco abstains on cyber settlement

The Ambridge Area School District Board of School Directors voted to adopt multiple consent-agenda items and personnel actions and approved a settlement with the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter Academy to recover an overpayment from the 2017–18 school year.

During committee reports, the board recommended approval of a staffing agreement with Preferred Home Health Care to provide nursing services and a settlement agreement intended to end litigation in the Court of Common Pleas in Beaver County. A motion to adopt items 1–5 passed by roll call; the transcript records one abstention on item 5 by Mrs. Romasco and otherwise affirming votes by the present board members.

The district’s solicitor told the board the settlement should recover approximately $95,000 and that the funds are expected to be received in about 60 days. "That was an effort to recover approximately $95,000 of overpayment," the solicitor said. The solicitor thanked the board for their work on the settlement and extended Thanksgiving wishes.

Personnel items were also approved: the board accepted the resignation of Brandy Johnson as Middle School Interact Club sponsor, effective Nov. 18, 2024, and amended a previously approved FMLA leave under district policy for a specified employee. New hires were noted as contingent on satisfactory clearances, drug testing and required certifications.

Other committee motions carried by roll call included finance and budget items, building-and-grounds recommendations (with an amendment to evaluate rather than purchase a baggage scanner), athletics recommendations and steering and rules agenda items. After approving the business items, the board adjourned into executive session and did not return to open session.
