Harrison County signs support letter for CityNet BEAD broadband application

CityNet external affairs manager Melissa O’Brien asked the commission to approve a local letter of support for the company’s BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment) application. She said CityNet serves existing customers in Harrison County and plans to apply for federal BEAD funds to extend service to roughly 5,000 addresses the state considers unserved.
O’Brien described CityNet as a West Virginia‑based provider with local offices and said the company has an RDOF block in the northwest part of Lumberport with a later build‑out date. She told commissioners that a local government letter of support is one scoring criterion for BEAD applications and that the company would submit applications to the state by the federal deadline.
Commissioners approved the sample letter included in the meeting packet and authorized the commission president to sign it. CityNet thanked the commission and said it would keep county officials updated on application progress.
